Concept · Cambusdoon Sports Club · Alloway, Ayr
A re-imagining of cambusdoonsportsclub.com as a members' app — built around the 2026 project brief from Bruce Hydes and Gill McElnea. Two treatments below: a full clubhouse app, and a deliberately simple variant that does four jobs and nothing else.
The problem the app solves
From the current website and the brief — each of these becomes a single in-app action.
Then a separate DD mandate link by email, then chase-ups, then collect a card from the bar a week later.
Members not on socials miss Ladies Day, the Sportsman's Dinner, quiz nights. The website is rarely updated or read.
Cricket has asked for one-off match fees for years — not feasible with annual-only DD membership.
Team calls happen in section WhatsApp groups; function enquiries arrive by email, Facebook or over the bar.
Two treatments
Both are live mockups — tap the tabs on Variant A's bottom bar to move between its three screens.
Everything in the brief: a club-wide feed, section pages, and your membership card with the 10% bar discount built in. Three tabs, no more.

Keeping it easy to build, maintain and test
The admin side is deliberately as easy as posting on Facebook: type an event, pick a section, press publish — it's in every member's pocket. New joiners appear in a simple list she can export for Intelligent Golf and Xero. If Gill can't do a task on her laptop unaided, it doesn't ship.
Variant B is Variant A with the feed collapsed to four buttons — same backend, same data. Launch simple, then switch on the Today feed and Sections tab once members are in the habit of opening the app.
A single cross-platform app (or even an installable web app to start) covers Android and Apple from one codebase — free to download, as the brief asks. The admin site for Gill and Sam is the same system in a browser.
Four flows to prove before launch, each testable in an afternoon at the club: join & pay, buy a ticket, answer a player call, scan the card at the till. If those four work for a committee member's least techy relative, it works.
