Concept · Cambusdoon Sports Club · Alloway, Ayr

One club. One app. Everything members do at Cambusdoon, in their pocket.

A re-imagining of cambusdoonsportsclub.com as a members' app — built around the 2026 project brief from Bruce Hydes and Gill McElnea. Two treatments below: a full clubhouse app, and a deliberately simple variant that does four jobs and nothing else.

~1,650 members 4 sections — Bowling · Cricket · Football · Social Today: Word-doc forms, emailed DD links, Facebook-only events

The problem the app solves

Joining takes a form, an email chase and a week. News only reaches Facebook.

From the current website and the brief — each of these becomes a single in-app action.

Today

Download a Word form, email it to Gill

Then a separate DD mandate link by email, then chase-ups, then collect a card from the bar a week later.

Today

Events live on Facebook & Instagram

Members not on socials miss Ladies Day, the Sportsman's Dinner, quiz nights. The website is rarely updated or read.

Today

Fill-in players can't pay per game

Cricket has asked for one-off match fees for years — not feasible with annual-only DD membership.

Today

AGM papers posted or emailed via Intelligent Golf

Team calls happen in section WhatsApp groups; function enquiries arrive by email, Facebook or over the bar.

Two treatments

Variant A: the Clubhouse app  ·  Variant B: the simple one

Both are live mockups — tap the tabs on Variant A's bottom bar to move between its three screens.

A · The Clubhouse

Everything in the brief: a club-wide feed, section pages, and your membership card with the 10% bar discount built in. Three tabs, no more.

B · The Simple One Recommended start

One screen, four jobs, zero learning curve. Every member — bowler to junior footballer's gran — can use it on day one, and Gill can run the whole thing herself. Variant A grows out of this later.

Traceability

Every line of the brief, mapped to a screen

Nothing invented, nothing dropped — the left column is Bruce and Gill's document, the right is where it lives in the app.

Keeping it easy to build, maintain and test

Build notes

Gill runs it — no developer needed day-to-day

The admin side is deliberately as easy as posting on Facebook: type an event, pick a section, press publish — it's in every member's pocket. New joiners appear in a simple list she can export for Intelligent Golf and Xero. If Gill can't do a task on her laptop unaided, it doesn't ship.

Ship B first, grow into A

Variant B is Variant A with the feed collapsed to four buttons — same backend, same data. Launch simple, then switch on the Today feed and Sections tab once members are in the habit of opening the app.

One codebase, both stores

A single cross-platform app (or even an installable web app to start) covers Android and Apple from one codebase — free to download, as the brief asks. The admin site for Gill and Sam is the same system in a browser.

Lean on what already works

  • GoCardless stays the DD rail — the app just creates mandates properly at signup
  • Intelligent Golf stays the membership record — the app feeds it instead of forms
  • Xero stays for invoicing; WhatsApp keeps team banter — the app only carries the official player call

Easy to test

Four flows to prove before launch, each testable in an afternoon at the club: join & pay, buy a ticket, answer a player call, scan the card at the till. If those four work for a committee member's least techy relative, it works.
